Calgary property assessments

Calgary assesses every property each year and mails the notices in the new year. The City publishes its full assessment roll as open data, which lets us compare your home with similar homes the moment you type your address.

You may be fairly assessed. If you are, we'll tell you.

What it costs if you go ahead

How the check works in Calgary

You type your address. We look up your property in the City's open data.
We find similar homes in your community and compare value per square foot.
You see your number, the comparable homes and, if there's a gap, the estimated saving and our fee.

Calgary's open data doesn't include living area, so for Calgary houses the first comparison uses value per square foot of lot, and we confirm living area from your notice before building a case. That is why we ask for a photo of your notice before we recommend filing.

Your dates

Complaint deadline: 60 days after the notice of assessment date printed on your notice, moved to the next business day if it falls on a weekend or holiday.

Check your notice

We don't state the review-period dates until we've confirmed them for the current roll. They're on your notice and the City of Calgary's website.

What happens if you go ahead

We ask the assessor to review your assessment first. We file a formal complaint only to protect your rights if the review isn't resolved 7 business days before the deadline. If the value comes down, the City recalculates your tax. If you pay monthly through the City's instalment plan, your monthly amount is recalculated. Any refund or credit goes to you, not to us.
