Same kind of home. Same assessment?

We check whether you're paying more property tax than your neighbours for the same kind of home, and we tell you the truth either way. If you are, we ask the assessor to take another look and handle the complaint or appeal if it's needed. Our share-of-savings fee applies only if your assessment goes down.

Street number and street name, for example 123 Panorama Hills Blvd NW, Calgary

Optional — helps us match the right property when a street name repeats.

The assessment check is free and you don't need to create an account to see your result. What it costs if you go ahead

You may be fairly assessed. If you are, we'll tell you.

What you'll see

  • Your number. Your assessed value per square foot, next to the median of similar homes nearby.
  • The homes we compared you with, with their public values.
  • A straight answer. You likely have a case, you look fairly assessed, or send us your notice and a person will check it.
  • The fee, before any ask. $79 upfront, any filing fee included plus a share of the saving, only if your assessment goes down. See exactly how it's calculated.

What it costs

The price never depends on who you are or what your home is worth. You see the full fee before you sign.

  • Upfront

    $79

A $79 upfront fee, charged when you sign (after any cooling-off period), that covers our review and any required filing fee.

  • Alberta and BC

    35%

In Alberta and BC, 35% of the first-year tax saving, charged once, only if your assessment goes down.

  • Ontario

    35%

In Ontario, 35% of the tax saving for 2.5 savings-years, collected in instalments once per tax year when your bill shows the saving, only if your assessment goes down.

If your assessment doesn't go down, there is no share-of-savings fee. Fees explained, with worked examples

Questions people actually ask

What happens if I'm fairly assessed?

Nothing, unless you want it to. We'll offer to remind you next January and let you share a check with a neighbour. We won't try to sell you anything.

Why do you ask the assessor to review first?

Because most questions can be settled by conversation, which is faster and easier for everyone. We file a formal complaint only to protect your rights if the review isn't resolved 7 business days before the deadline.

Are you part of the government or the assessment office?

No. Canada Tax Appeal is a private company. We are not a government body or an assessment authority and are not affiliated with any municipality, MPAC or BC Assessment.

How much does it cost?

A $79 upfront fee, charged when you sign (after any cooling-off period), that covers our review and any required filing fee, plus a share of the saving. In Alberta and BC, 35% of the first-year tax saving, charged once, only if your assessment goes down. In Ontario, 35% of the tax saving for 2.5 savings-years, collected in instalments once per tax year when your bill shows the saving, only if your assessment goes down.

What is the deadline in Alberta?

60 days after the notice of assessment date printed on your notice, moved to the next business day if it falls on a weekend or holiday. Late complaints are not valid.
